Singer, Songwriter, Poet, Musician

Explore 45 years of songs and recordings of Rebby’s original music that reflect her life’s journey. Rebby has been writing poems, musical ditties and songs since she was a little girl. Beginning at a very young age, she was fortunate to have excellent exposure to all genres of music growing up; was trained in classical piano, violin, percussion and performed in orchestra, band, jazz band, marching band and a girls’ drum & bugle corps, as well as singing in a variety of choral groups.
Growing up in the heart of folk music and rock & roll in the 50s and 60s, Rebby was heavily influenced by the sweet sounds, harmonies and the beat. In addition to singing and playing music, Rebby listened to big bands, classical orchestras, folk, pop, rock ‘n roll and the amazing artists and music of the 50s and 60s every single day.
Missing a daily feast of music from her life while attending college, Rebby bought a guitar and taught herself how to play to get her daily fix of playing an instrument, which was a daily presence in her life. As she began playing the guitar, lyrics and melodies started pouring out of Rebby’s soul and haven’t stopped.
The Songwriter
With a library of hundreds of songs to choose from, and years of writing poetry, short stories and journaling, Rebby has finished a manuscript about her music titled “The Songwriter.”
Here’s an excerpt:
A book about life – surviving the challenges
loving nature and understanding the blessings of the earth
loving people – unique individuals – out of the ordinary
the roads I’ve traveled
the challenges I’ve faced
the broken pieces along the way
Perhaps it is not much different than the leaves as fall appears on the scene.
They are painted and colored by their past
Water and sun . . . no water and no sun
They fall off the branches and are swept up by the wind
Carried off to an unknown journey
Kick back and spread your wings
Float with the wind drifts
Take advantage of the breeze
Let it lift you up and float like magic
As you soar through my soul on this journey
As you enter the soul of each song

A work in progress, the manuscript has 7 chapters featuring 10 of Rebby’s original songs in each chapter. Many of the 70 songs in the manuscript are featured on Rebby’s CDs, which are available for streaming. Here’s a little glimpse of each chapter.
Chapter One “See The Sun”
Chapter One “See The Sun” is titled after one of Rebby’s oldest and favorite songs. A song her son, Andy, now in his 40s, has listened to since he was a small, delightful lad of only 3 years old. To Rebby’s surprise, Andy knew every single word by heart, as she found out when she brought him to the studio for a recording session. As he sat on a nearby stool, Andy sang his heart out without skipping a beat. He was 6.
The song is featured on “See The Sun” CD and is available for streaming.
“See the sun come shining in my window.
Hear the rain falling on the ground.
And I want you to know you’ll always have a friend in me
And you’re welcome just to come and hang around.”

Chapter Two “Behind Green Eyes”
“Behind green eyes, I see your soul. It’s the heart of you, it makes me whole.”
--Dougie A.
“Behind Green Eyes” was a song born out of the poem above, written about Rebby by a dear friend and companion back in 1981. From years of promoting music on the road, gold and platinum records graced their walls for his successful record promotions of artists including Charlie Daniels, Meatloaf, Warren Zevon, Loggins & Messina, and others. Recorded for the first time in 2009, “Behind Green Eyes” is the first song on the “R” Album and is
available for streaming.

Chapter Three – “Woman Be Strong”
Chapter Three – “Woman Be Strong” highlights a very special song and story written for Rebby’s very special friend, Linda, who was fearless in her fight against inflammatory breast cancer. She dealt with it with grace and strength beyond what one would expect to have and gave her strength to others. This song has been sung at concerts, fundraisers and events for cancer, traveled on the 60-mile walk for breast cancer, and has empowered those whose friends have shared this song as comfort, strength, and hope as someone they know travels down the path of the unknown.
Woman be strong, like a lion
woman be strong as you can be.
Woman fly high, like an eagle
and soar so fast and free.
Woman fly high, like an eagle
spread your wings and sail the sea.
Woman be strong, like a lion
be as strong as you can be.
“Woman Be Strong” is featured on two of Rebby’s CDs. “Sneak Preview” features the original recording, recorded in 1997, shortly after it was written; Linda was present in the studio for the recording while she was in between having a mastectomy and an upcoming bone marrow transplant. A second version was recorded in 2003 and is featured on the “See The Sun” CD. Both are
available for streaming.

Chapter Four - “Staying Afloat”
Rebby wrote the song “Staying Afloat” in 1999 when everyone thought the world might go down the tubes when the computers had to change over to the year 2000. As usual, life was a challenge, as well.
Rebby loves the water, and her Staying Afloat CD reflects that, both in the photography and the messages written by Rebby in the accompanying CD booklet. Swimming and water exercise has always been an important part of Rebby’s life and still is.
“Staying afloat on the water, staying afloat on the sea
Staying afloat as the wind blows, what will become of me?
Treading water madly, So the fish don’t bite
Swimming with the sharks. Will we make it through the night?”

Chapter Five – “Sunrise”
Inspired by one of the greatest pieces of natural artwork not created by man, the song “Sunrise” was born, watching the sky come alive every day from 19 floors up, rewarding Rebby with unbelievable photos and colors of sunrises, sunsets, storms, and clouds. A photographer with an exceptional eye, Rebby’s sky photos are featured in the photography section.
“Early with the sunrise, the sky changes color
Watching the day come alive
The sun peeks its head out, the clouds might cast a shadow
You can hear the wind whisper if you try.
Softly the sun sets, the sky changes color
Waiting for nighttime to fall.
The sky’s filled with magic, all over the horizon
It happens in no time at all.
I can see the sunrise when I close my eyes and pray.
I can see the sunset and I’m thankful everyday that I can see the sun rise.”

Chapter Six – “In The Woods”
Chapter Six – “In The Woods” –a place where Rebby loves to be and where many of her songs were inspired and written. Influenced especially by her dad, a forest ranger back in the day and lover of trees and all things nature, Rebby grew up loving the woods, the birds, the flowers, the animals. Every year growing up, Rebby planted hundreds of tree seedlings along side her mom and dad to replenish the forest.
“I hear the trumpeters blaring
Some of them stay through the cold
How do those little birds keep so warm
It’s here that I want to grow old.
The snowshoe comes out of the forest
The bluejays get in on the fun
Patterns of flight all over the sky
Squirrels on the run
Here in the woods.”

Chapter Seven “No Ordinary Dame”

The last chapter of the manuscript is titled “No Ordinary Dame” after a song Rebby wrote about herself in 1981, recorded for the first time in 2009 and featured on the “R” CD.
It was a time in Rebby’s life when she had to stand up for herself, her son and what she believed in.
I never had much money
I never had much fame
But honey, I ain’t no ordinary kind of a dame.
I’ve had some hard times
I’ve walked the streets
But I know those hard times, they can be beat
You have to stand up for yourself
You have to stand up and fight.
Oh, you can’t be afraid
You have to do what’s right.
