    Behind Green Eyes

    © 1981 Rebecca Lee

    Behind green eyes

    I see your soul

    It’s the heart of you

    It makes my whole

    Some don’t know it

    And some don’t show it

    And some

    You can never tell

    Some can’t find it

But never you mind itJust wear yours well

    Your soul

    Behind green eyes

    I see your soul

    It’s the heart of you

    It makes my whole

    GREED

    ©1980 Rebecca Lee

    We’re talking about GREED . . . A real universal thing

Well sometimes it reminds me of something kind of like a wedding ring

    It means you own something

Kinda like buying candy at the 10 cent store

You buy one little bag and you want a whole lot more

    It’s called greed

Ah, but you can plead with your soul . . . not to go to greed . . .

it ain’t the seed of life you know

    But God it’s everywhere . . . it’s kind of like a devil’s dare

Can it really drive men and women insane

Oh, the doctors and the bankers, I think the lawyers, too

Well, hell, maybe it’s in all of us . . . a little bit in me . . . little bit in you, ya Greed

Ah, but you can plead with your soul . . . not to go to greed . . .

it ain’t the seed of life you know

An there ain’t no rainbows there . . . and there ain’t no sunny skies

Believe me when I say, I know, I ain’t into telling no lies about greed

It’s just everywhere, you know . . . and you gotta protect yourself from it darling
Nearly everywhere you go . . . and watch out man, ‘cause greed can grow

    CHORUS – just give me a simple life . . .  that’s all I need

Just give me a simple life and throw away the greed

What happened to the simple life . . . the life we knew so well

What happened to the simple life Lord, I think the sky just fell

So we pick up the pieces and we no longer roam

We just pass greed by the wayside baby and find ourselves a home

    Without the greed

    CHORUS – just give me a simple life . . .  that’s all I need

Just give me a simple life and throw away the greed

This part here I wrote six months later, I wrote this for my son Andy,

He’s 4 ½ almost 5, by God he is 5, almost 6, my how time does fly.

He’s an ansey sort of a little fellow, always wanting to go places and do things

And he was pulling on my leg one day wanting to go riding around in my car

Visiting all our friends, and I wanted to go too

But my car it didn’t have no gas in it, and my pocket, it didn’t have no money in it

And how do you explain that to a 5 year old kid?

Well, I wanted to say something besides no . . .

seems like such a worthless thing to say

And kids they don’t listen to much anyway and I wanted to grab his attention

And I thought he does know every radio and television commercial you ever heard

    By heart, every word

And if he could learn that he could learn this, and maybe he’d sing it to somebody else someday and maybe they’d get something out of it, and maybe he’d get something out of it too

So I says Andy, I says

Well, sometimes you just gotta stay at home

Sometimes you just can’t roam from place to place

And sometimes you just have to play with your car

And baby, I know you’ll go far away from here

Oh, I love you I do, but you, you’ll grow up too, and be on your own

My just look how you’ve grown, my honey child

Now listen here, don’t you be wild – just be fair

And go find yourself a simple life – ‘cause that’s all you need

Just find yourself a simple life son, and throw away the greed

Just find yourself a simple life . . . that’s all you need

Just find yourself a simple life, son, and throw away the greed

    Just give me a simple life . . . that’s all I need

Just give me a simple life and throw away the greed

Give me a life in the country, where the deer and the antelope roam

Give me a life in the country Lord, and please just give me a home, give me a home

    Let’s Get Away

    ©2006 Rebecca Lee

Just to get away and feel the wind

To sit and let the sun warm up my skin

To leave the world of moving cars

To look up high and see the stars

    Let’s get away

To take a breath and then to let it go

To feel a tingle way down in my toe

To watch the birds up in the air . . . To feel like I’m without a care

    Let’s get away

Let’s get away to the wilderness . . . maybe to the sea

    Let’s walk along a mountain path . . .

Let’s get away - you and me

Let’s get away and leave the stress behind

Let’s go somewhere and find some peace of mind

    We’ll read a book and watch the sun . . .

Take bubble baths and have some fun

    Let’s get away

We’ll talk awhile and then we’ll have some tea

There’ll be no rush – there’ll be no where to be

We’ll sit and stare into the air

And choose not to go anywhere

Let’s get away to the wilderness . . . maybe to the sea

    Let’s walk along a mountain path . . .

Let’s get away - you and me

    Staying Afloat

    ©1999  Rebecca Lee

    Staying afloat on the water

    Staying afloat on the sea

Staying afloat as the world turns

    What will become of me

Staying afloat on the white caps

    Staying afloat through the storm

Staying afloat as the wind blows

    Trying to keep warm

Treading water madly so the fish don’t bite

Swimming with the sharks . . . will we make it through the night

    Staying afloat as a person

Staying afloat is up to you

    Staying afloat as a country

    What will the world do

Staying afloat when your heart is aching

    Staying afloat deep inside

    Staying afloat in shark-filled waters

Do you think you can survive

Treading water madly so the fish don’t bite

Swimming with the sharks . . . will we make it through the night

    Staying afloat when you’re wounded

Staying afloat with a broken wing

We stayed afloat through some hard times

    What will tomorrow bring

    Staying afloat on the water

    Staying afloat on the sea

Staying afloat as the world turns

    What will become of me

    Out of the Ordinary

    ©2001 rebecca lee

    Out of the ordinary

    she runs

    Out of the ordinary

    she comes . . . to you

‘Cause you are out of the ordinary, too

    Out of the ordinary

    she is

    Out of the ordinary

she gives . . to you

‘Cause you are out of the ordinary, too

    She runs

    She flies

You can see it in her eyes

    She lives

    She breathes

    She loves the trees

    Complicated

    And free

    Out of the ordinary

    Out of the ordinary

    she runs

    Out of the ordinary

    she comes

    to you

‘Cause you are out of the ordinary, too

    Old House

    ©2002 Rebecca Lee

It was an old house . . . just an old house

It had lace curtains in the windows

    Wood work so warm everywhere

Big rooms, a big yard for playing

It was an old house – our family lived there

I have great memories of Christmas

Snow covered pine trees so white

    Love was within and abounding

    Everything was beautiful and bright

It was an old house . . . just an old house

Our family grew up and moved away

From the big house up on the hill

The house was still lived in by others

Even so, it was our house still

    One day a tragedy happened

    A fire spread quickly within

Burned up most of the inside

    Making our memories seem dim

It was an old house . . . just an old house

But what was burned was a building

    Nothing that can’t be replaced

We still have the love and the memories

    Memories that can’t be erased

And there is a message in everything

A reminder of what you believe

If you just believe in the building

Maybe there’s something else you need

It was an old house . . . just an old house

‘Cause if you have love all around you

Tell me what more do you need

Maybe you need to be thinking

That someone has just planted a seed . . .

It was an old house . . . just an old house

    I Love You Anyway

    ©1999 Rebecca Lee

I know we are different    . . . you and me

But I love you anyway . . . it’s so plain to see

It’s what makes us . . . who we are

Even though sometimes we see a different star

    II Love you anyway

    Different colors in the world

    Making life a beautiful swirl

The way that you are . . . I know it so well

You’re different from me and it’s easy to tell

But that what I love is the whole picture of you

My eyes are green and your eyes are blue

    I love you anyway

Different eyes look at the sky

    Different colors through each eye

And when we don’t see eye to eye

    Plain eye to eye

I’ll take a deep breath and I’ll try not to cry

It’s not important that we be the same

We’ll work it out . . . our love will remain

    I love you anyway

    No Ordinary Dame

    ©1985 rebecca lee

    I never had much money

    I never had much fame

But honey, I ain’t no ordinary kind of a dame

    I’ve had some hard times

    I’ve walked the streets

I know those hard times can be beat

    they can be beat

    Maybe you don’t know

    Maybe you can’t see

    What can be.

    I never had much money

    I never had much fame

But honey, I ain’t no ordinary kind of a dame

You’ve got to stand up for yourself

You have to stand up and fight

    Oh, you can’t be afraid

You’ve got to do what’s right

    Maybe you don’t know

    Maybe you can’t see

    What can be

    I never had much money

    I never had much fame
But honey, I ain’t no ordinary kind of a dame

No ordinary kind of a dame

I ain’t no ordinary kind of a dame

    In The Woods

    ©2008 Rebecca Lee

written in February . . . at the Lake

Nobody knows we’re here yet  . . . Nobody knows we came

    Nobody knows we’re here yet . . . It’s still the same

Nobody knows we came yet . . .Nobody knows we’re here

Nobody saw us come down the lane . . .Not even the deer

Here in the woods . . . Here in the woods

You get the fire started . . .I’ll put the coffee on

I’ll fill the feeders right away . . .‘cause the birds have all gone

They won’t come in an hour . . .Not even in two

Word has to spread in the forest . . . The cooks have come back – that’s me & you

Here in the woods . . . Here in the woods

I hear the trumpeters blaring . . . some of the stay through the cold

How do those tiny birds keep so warm. . . it’s here that I want to grow old

The snowshoe comes out of the forest . . . the blue jays get in on the fun

Patterns of flight all over the place (sky) . . . and squirrels on the run

Here in the woods . . . Here in the woods

Let’s take a walk in the forest . . . Say hi to our little friends

Let’s go wandering through the snowdrifts . . . I don’t want this to end

I know we’ll go back to the city . . . Do what we have to do

But right now our place is here in the woods . . . Just me and you

Here in the woods . . . Here in the woods

  • Rhythms of the Heart

    Rhythms of the Heart

When I look into your eyes

    There is a surprise

    Before me

    It’s magical

    It’s free

    I wonder what you see

    It’s a mystery

    Rhythms of the heart

    Fire In The Sky

There’s a fire in the sky

There’s a fire in my heart

See the fire in my eyes

Tell me how did it start

    Fire in the sky

    Fire in the heart

    I think about your ways

    I think about your mind

    I wonder where you been

And how come your so kind

    To me

Is it the fire in the sky

Is it the fire in your heart

I see the fire in your eyes

Was it there right from the start

    Fire in the sky

    Fire in the heart

    Fire in the sky

    How does it start

Ours is not to question why

Sometimes we don’t have to know

If you feel it in your heart

That’s the way that you should go

Follow the fire in the sky

Follow the fire in your heart

Feel the fire in your eyes

Was it there right from the start

    Fire in the sky

    Fire in the heart

    Many Hours In A Row

    Many hours in a row

I could look at your face

    And feel my heart race

    Across the sky

    Many hours in a row

I could watch your hands dance

    Oh, I’ll take a chance

    With my heart

    Many hours in a row

    I’ll close my eyes

    And feel you nearby

    When you’re not there

    Many hours in a row

    I love your laughter

    When it comes after

    Something I’ve said

    Many hours in a row

    We could hold hands

    Walk in the sand

    By the shore

    Many hours in a row

    We’ll look at the sky

    The clouds floating by

High up above . . . I think this is love

    Many hours in a row

    I’ll swim by your side

    And watch the waves hide

    What you might say

    Many hours in a row

    I’ll look in your eyes

    And feel the surprise

    Of your soul

    Many hours in a row

When I look at your face

    There’ll be a trace

    Of love in my eyes

    Many hours in a row

    I’ll watch your hands dance

    Make some romance

Under the stars . . .many hours in a row

    Colors of You

Yellow and bright like the sunshine

Blue like the sea and the sky

Constantly changing just like the clouds

    They catch my eye

    Like colors of you

    Colors of you

Sparkling like gold and like silver

    Brilliant like diamonds and pearls

You fill my life with such colors

Like a top in a swirl

    Colors of you

Your music, your laughter, the way that you look

The colors you give me aren’t painted – or found in a book

    Colors of you

    So soft and white

    Expressions of life

Like the clouds in the sky

    As they pass on by

    Like Colors of you

Colors of you like a rainbow

Like mixtures of red and of blue

    Deep and filled with emotion

    Passion unlike any hue

    Colors of you

Your music, your laughter, the way that you look

The colors you give me aren’t painted – or found in a book

    Colors of you

I could travel all over on land and on sea

And not find the colors that you give to me

    Colors of you

    The Miracle

I think of you when I look into the sky

I think of you as the clouds pass me by

    It's like a dream

    And so it seems

    A miracle

    The miracle

    The waters edge

    The reflection in my mind

    The ripple of the waves

    uncovering a find

    It's like a dream

    And so it seems

    A miracle

    The miracle

Each day we live is a miracle of life

And if you look around you’ll see

    The flowers blooming

The rainbows in the sky when it rains . . . in the sun

It all reminds me of you

    Life is a miracle . . . it's true

One of the miracles is you

    Sunrise

    Early with the sun rise

    The sky changes color

    Watching the day come alive

The sun peeks its head out

The clouds might cast a shadow

You can hear the wind whisper if you try

I can see the sun rise

And the sky turn to blue

I can see the sun rise

And my thoughts turn to you

I can see the sun rise

I can hear the wind blow

    And it whispers my name

Can you hear the wind blow

    Are you feeling the same

    When the sun moves in

    And the wind flies free

    And I look at you

    Looking back at me

Can you hear the wind blow

    Softly the sun sets

    The sky changes color

    Waiting for nighttime to fall

    The sky’s filled with magic

    All over the horizon

It happens in no time at all

I can see the sun set

And I can see the sky turn to pink

I can see the sun set

    Disappearing in a wink

I can see the sunset . . . I can see the sunrise

I can hear the wind blow . . . I can see what’s in your eyes

Can you see the sun set . . . Can you see the sun rise

Can you hear the wind blow . . . Can you see what’s in my eyes

    I can see the sunrise

When I close my eyes and pray

    I can see the sunset

And I’m thankful for everyday that I can see the sunrise

    Rhyme & Reason

    ©2003 Rebecca Lee

There is a reason for everything

There is a rhyme for the way that you feel

    There is a rhyme

    There is a reason

There is a reason for every flower

There is a rhyme in every hour

There is a rhyme    there is a reason

There is a time      there is a season

There is a rhyme     there is a reason

    Come With Me

    Come with me

And we’ll dance in the sun

    Come with me

And we’ll laugh and we’ll run

    Come with me

    I won’t ask you why

    I’ll look in your eye

    For the answer

    I’ll just hold your hand

    And I’ll understand

    How you feel

    Come with me

    I’ll share your smile

    And I’d walk a mile

    Just to see it

    I’ll share your pain

    We’ll walk through the rain

    together

    Come with me

And we’ll dance in the sun

    Come with me

And we’ll laugh and we’ll run

     Come with me

    Come with me

    Here’s My Heart

    Here’s my heart

    Here’s my soul

Have some fun now wherever you go

    I’ll be there . . . Walking with you

    Easy now . . . It’s like a dream come true

    How I care for you

    Wherever you may travel

    My heart will be there

    Wrapped up inside of you

    Carefully

    Wherever you may wander

    I’ll be with you

    Tucked down inside your soul

    Tenderly

    Ever so tenderly

    I care for you

    Here’s my heart

    Here’s my soul

Have some fun now wherever you go

    I’ll be there . . . Walking with you

    Easy now . . . It’s like a dream come true

    How I care for you

    Whenever you are near me

    I feel so warm

    Deep down inside of me

    Everywhere – oh, everywhere

    Wherever you may wander

    My heart will be there

    Wrapped up inside of you

    Carefully

    Ever so carefully

    I care for you

  • In the Woods

    Dance of the Norway Pine

    They’re swaying in the wind . . . . they’re playing with the sky

    They’re dancing in the sun . . .  and they’re flying high

They dance in harmony . . . they sparkle and they shine

They stand so proud and tall . . . the Norway Pine

It’s the dance of the Norway Pine

    So beautiful to see

Oh, they sway in the wind and they dance all around

    Come and dance with me

The sun peeks through the leaves . . . snow sparkles in the air

They’re dancing in the woods . . . me and the birds are there

We sing a song or two . . .  squirrels run from tree to tree

    I’m sitting in the woods . . . and who’s watching me ?

It’s the dance of the Norway Pine

    So beautiful to see

Oh, they sway in the wind and they dance all around

    Come and dance with me

As I’m sitting there . . . watching it go on

I listen to the air . . . trying not to make a sound

The deer walk by the stand . . . where I sit so quietly

I don’t know that they have passed me so silently

It’s the dance of the Norway Pine

    So beautiful to see

Oh, they sway in the wind and they dance all around

    Come and dance with me

The Butterfly Song – A Celebration of Life

Hundreds of butterflies danced in the air

The wind took the leaves as a partner

    And they fluttered with care

The sun came by and stayed most of the day

    So many had gathered

There was so much to say

And the butterflies danced in the wind

Floating in the air – the butterfly –

Flying in the sky – the butterfly

    At the Celebration Dance

The farmers, their wives, their children were there

Friends and companions – relatives  – came to share

They brought their chairs and sat right outside

They took in each moment - the day was alive

And the butterflies danced in the wind

Floating in the air – the butterfly –

Flying in the sky – the butterfly

    At the Celebration Dance

It was a dance of the heart - full of care

It didn’t matter who you were

    Or what you would wear

The music was free – the spirit was true

We all shared together  – me, you and you

And the butterflies danced in the wind

It was a gathering of life – that day

It is a gathering of life – today

A celebration of life - today

And the butterflies dance in the wind

    North Woods

Written in loving memory of my dad, a kind and gentle man, after he died in 1987

Looking at the clear blue water

    Looking for the sun

    Wondering about the world

And which way I should run

Oh I’ve been thinking of you now

    Wondering how you are

    Even though you’ve gone away

You know you haven’t gone so far

The memory of your true love

And the treasures that we’ve had

    They’ll always be within me

You’ll always be there mom and dad

And the tall pines of the north woods

I know how you loved them so

You know that I’ve been missing you

And I know you had to go

    Looking at the hazy sky

    Looking for the setting sun

    Still thinking about how you

I guess I’ll take my dog on a run

‘Cause I can’t quit thinking of you

I’m still thinking of you now

Still I wonder how you are

    I guess I’ll make a wish

Next time I see a falling star

And I’ll wish that you are happy

And I’ll wish you peace and sun

But I sort of wish you were here

To come with me and run

Through the tall pines of the north woods

I know how you loved them so

You know that I’ve been missing you

But I know we had to go . . .Our separate ways

    But I know our paths will cross . . . In future days . . .

    Itasca

where the mighty Mississippi River begins its winding way down to the Gulf of Mexico

and the pine trees grow big and tall and dance in the wind . . . Itasca

I love Preacher’s Grove in the sunshine . . . the headwaters in the rain

I love Itasca in the summer . . . there’s no place the same

I can feel the spirit there . . . I hear the wind through the trees

And I feel the golden sun . . . I hear the leaves

And they talk to me . . . they tell me stories

Of the brave men who have passed

They give me hope and inspiration

    And a love to last . . . a lifetime

I love the deer trails running through the woods . . . ladyslippers on the lane

I love Itasca in the winter . . . there’s no place the same

And I feel the spirit there . . . I hear the wind through the trees

And I feel the golden sun . . . I hear the leaves

And they talk to me . . . they tell me stories

Of strong women who have passed

They give me hope and inspiration

    And a love to last . . . a lifetime

I love the wild call of the common loon . . . as it flies so high above

I love Itasca any time at all . . . it’s the forest that I love

And I feel the spirit there . . . when the sun shines down on me

And I feel the earth as one . . . when I sit beside a tree

The forest talks to me . . . it tells me stories

Of men and women who have passed

It gives me hope and inspiration

And a love to last a lifetime

    See The Sun

See the sun come shining in my window

Hear the rain falling on the ground

And I want you to know you’ll always have a friend in me

And you’re welcome just to come and hang around

With me, anytime, night or day, buddy

I’ll be waiting around just to play

I’ll be waiting by the tree . . . won’t you come and play with me

    Near the water . . . underneath the sky . . . just you and I

Come let’s walk hand in hand as we stroll along the sand

    Thinking about what tomorrow brings

And we won’t worry ‘bout the future

We won’t worry ‘bout the past

‘Cause we got a love that’s really going to last

And I want you to know that wherever you may go

I’ll be missing you . . . . and my thoughts will be there

And you can search the whole world over

And try to find some clover

But you’ll never find a truer friend who’ll care

Like I do, and I do, yes I really care for you

It’s so crazy . . . but it feels so right

When you’re near and I’m sincere that I never felt no better

Than when you are here with me in the night

    My friend

See the sun come shining in my window

Hear the rain falling on the ground

And I want you to know you’ll always have a friend in me

And you’re welcome just to come and hang around

    With me . . .

    Sunrise

    Early with the sun rise

    The sky changes color

    Watching the day come alive

The sun peeks its head out

The clouds might cast a shadow

You can hear the wind whisper if you try

I can see the sun rise

And the sky turn to blue

I can see the sun rise

And my thoughts turn to you

I can see the sun rise

I can hear the wind blow

    And it whispers my name

Can you hear the wind blow

    Are you feeling the same

    When the sun moves in

    And the wind flies free

    And I look at you

    Looking back at me

Can you hear the wind blow

    Softly the sun sets

    The sky changes color

    Waiting for nighttime to fall

    The sky’s filled with magic

    All over the horizon

It happens in no time at all

I can see the sun set

And I can see the sky turn to pink

I can see the sun set

    Disappearing in a wink

I can see the sunset . . . I can see the sunrise

I can hear the wind blow . . . I can see what’s in your eyes

Can you see the sun set . . . Can you see the sun rise

Can you hear the wind blow . . . Can you see what’s in my eyes

    I can see the sunrise

When I close my eyes and pray

    I can see the sunset

And I’m thankful for everyday that I can see the sunrise

    Woman Be Strong

Woman be strong like a lion . . . Woman be strong as you can be

Woman fly high like an eagle  . . . And soar so fast and free

Woman fly high like an eagle . . . Spread your wings and sail the sea

Woman be strong like a lion . . . Be as strong as you can be

You are a sign of strength for many . . . You stand tall just like a tree

You deal with pain with rays of sunshine . . .And you give your strength to me

And I thank the Lord that I know you . . .I’m so glad you’re in my life

And I say my prayers each morning . . . That you will be free from strife

Woman be strong like a lion . . . Woman be strong as you can be

Woman fly high like an eagle  . . . And soar so fast and free

Woman fly high like an eagle . . . Spread your wings and sail the sea

Woman be strong like a lion . . . Be as strong as you can be

You go through grief with so much honor . . .  You try to find a source of peace

You give us all someone to lean on  . . . And your strength it does not cease

We look at how you deal with sorrow . . . You share with us your hope and trust

You carry on with strength and love inside . . . And you give your strength to us

And we’ll be strong like a lion . . . We’ll be strong as we can be

We’ll fly high like an eagle  . . . And soar so fast and free

We’ll fly high like an eagle . . . We’ll spread our wings and sail the sea

The Butterfly Song – A Celebration of Life

Hundreds of butterflies danced in the air

The wind took the leaves as a partner

    And they fluttered with care

The sun came by and stayed most of the day

    So many had gathered

There was so much to say

And the butterflies danced in the wind

Floating in the air – the butterfly –

Flying in the sky – the butterfly

    At the Celebration Dance

The farmers, their wives, their children were there

Friends and companions – relatives  – came to share

They brought their chairs and sat right outside

They took in each moment - the day was alive

And the butterflies danced in the wind

Floating in the air – the butterfly –

Flying in the sky – the butterfly

    At the Celebration Dance

It was a dance of the heart - full of care

It didn’t matter who you were

    Or what you would wear

The music was free – the spirit was true

We all shared together  – me, you and you

And the butterflies danced in the wind

It was a gathering of life – that day

It is a gathering of life – today

A celebration of life - today

And the butterflies dance in the wind

No One’s Dream But Your Own

You are no one’s dream but your own

    If your heart is calling

    You must find a way

You must try to go there

It doesn’t matter what anyone might say

You are no one’s dream but your own

    If you get a signal

You feel it in your heart

You will know which road to take

You will know just when to start

You are no one’s dream but your own

    If you’re feeling troubled

By a friend who says they care

    Remember whose heart’s at risk

    Remember who was there

    When the lights went out

When the sun went down in the sky

    Remember who held your hand

    Remember these things

    And why

You are no one’s dream but your own

    Song For Mom

When you got no place to go

And you got nothing to show

You can still call your mom

When the blues they got you down

And the clowns begin to frown

    Mom, oh she’ll be there

Oh your mom she loves you so

You’re in her heart you know

You’ll always be there to stay

And she’ll keep on loving you

    Even when she’s gone

Your mom, she’ll always be there

And her spirit will keep you strong

    There’s nothing like a mom

    She’ll hold your hand

    Nothing like a mom

    She’ll understand

    Nothing like a mom

When you got no place to go

And you got nothing to show

You can still call your mom

When the blues they got you down

And the clowns begin to frown

    Mom, oh she’ll be there

    Wings of An Angel

    ©2002 Rebecca Lee

My life is touched by the wings of an angel

Her gentle ways are deep in my heart

Her warm embrace, the love in her eyes

Her sweet hello, her soft goodbye

Her gentle touch, her loving nature

    The way she cares

I feel her in my heart

    Inside my soul

    Wherever I may go

    She is there with me

    By my side

    Watching over me

My life is touched by the wings of an angel

    Her warm embrace

    The love in her eyes

Her gentle ways are deep inside my heart

    Watching over me

    Threads of Gold

Threads of gold  . . . in her hair

Threads of gold . . . in the air

    From the sun

    Woven here . . . woven there

    Just a thread  . . . woven with care

    Threads of gold

    Just a word . . . maybe two

What will it mean . . . what will it do

What will you do  . . . What will you see

If one thread is missing . . . how strong will it be

    A word to you . . . maybe you’ll see

    Leavin’ Town

    I’m leaving town

    I won’t be around

Please don’t beg me to stay

    I’m leavin’ town

    You can’t tie me down

I been wanting to go this way

I’m not sure what I’ll find there

But I’m feeling really good inside

I know the flowers will be blooming for me

    Even when it’s rain outside

    I’m leaving town

    Don’t whisper a sound

I’ll find a place to stay

    I’m leaving town

My feet are off the ground

And I’m gonna by on my way

You know I won’t forget you

You’ll always be on my mind

    You’ll just hop a plane

    And come visit me sometime

    I’m leaving town

    I won’t be around

Please don’t beg me to stay

    I’m leavin’ town

    You can’t tie me down

I’ve got to go my own way

Don’t know what I’ll be doing tomorrow

    Something will come along

You know that I’ll be dancing in the sun

Now how can I go wrong

    I’m leaving town

    I won’t be around

Please don’t beg me to stay

    I’m leavin’ town

    You can’t tie me down

    I’m gonna be on my way  . . .  I’m leaving . . . I’m leaving

    Dance of the Norway Pine

    ©1996 Rebecca Lee

    They’re swaying in the wind . . . . they’re playing with the sky

    They’re dancing in the sun . . .  and they’re flying high

They dance in harmony . . . they sparkle and they shine

They stand so proud and tall . . . the Norway Pine

It’s the dance of the Norway Pine

    So beautiful to see

Oh, they sway in the wind and they dance all around

    Come and dance with me

They sun peeks through the leaves . . . snow sparkles in the air

They’re dancing in the woods . . . me and the birds are there

We sing a song or two . . .  squirrels run from tree to tree

    I’m sitting in the woods . . . and who’s watching me ?

It’s the dance of the Norway Pine

    So beautiful to see

Oh, they sway in the wind and they dance all around

    Come and dance with me

As I’m sitting there . . . watching it go on

I listen to the air . . . trying not to make a sound

The deer walk by the stand . . . where I sit so quietly

I don’t know that they have passed me so silently

It’s the dance of the Norway Pine

    So beautiful to see

Oh, they sway in the wind and they dance all around

    Come and dance with me

    Come With Me

    Come with me

    Come with me

    Come with me

And we’ll dance in the sun

    Come with me

And we’ll laugh and we’ll run

    Come with me

    Come with me

    I won’t ask you why

    I’ll look in your eye

    For the answer

    I’ll just hold your hand

    And I’ll understand

    How you feel

    Come with me

    I’ll share your smile

    And I’d walk a mile

    Just to see it

    I’ll share your pain

    We’ll walk through the rain

    together

    Come with me

And we’ll dance in the sun

    Come with me

And we’ll laugh and we’ll run

     Come with me

    Decades Of Our Lives

    ©2000 Rebecca Lee

We are all the decades of our lives

We are all the decades of our lives

We are our past, present and future

    Woven together

We are all the decades of our lives

There is a path I must follow

Where it will lead, I don’t know

But through the decades I’ve learned that

    We continue to grow

With a true heart and good friends beside me

I know that I’ll find my way

Maybe it’s all in the journey

    We take every day

We are all the decades of our lives

We are all the decades of our lives

We are our past, present and future

    Woven together

We are all the decades of our lives

I’ve learned to trust in my feelings

I’ve learned to hold my head high

I know that life is just mountains

    We have to climb high

We are all the decades of our lives

We are all the decades of our lives

We are our past, present and future

    Woven together

We are all the decades of our lives

    Many Hours In A Row

    ©2001 Rebecca Lee

    Many hours in a row

I could look at your face

    And feel my heart race

    Across the sky

    Many hours in a row

I could watch your hands dance

    Oh, I’ll take a chance

    With my heart

    Many hours in a row

    I’ll close my eyes

    And feel you near by

    When you’re not there

    Many hours in a row

    I love your laughter

    When it comes after

    Something I’ve said

    Many hours in a row

    We could hold hands

    Walk in the sand

    By the shore

    Many hours in a row

    We’ll look at the sky

    The clouds floating by

High up above . . . I think this is love

    Many hours in a row

    I’ll swim by your side

    And watch the waves hide

    What you might say

    Many hours in a row

    I’ll look in your eyes

    And feel the surprise

    Of your soul

    Many hours in a row

When I look at your face

    There’ll be a trace

    Of love in my eyes

    Many hours in a row

    I’ll watch your hands dance

    Make some romance

    Under the stars

    Many hours in a row

    Nothin’ Is Easy

     ©2001 Rebecca Lee

    Nothin’ is easy

    Nothin’ comes free

    It all has a price

    Nothin’ is simple

    Nothin’ is pure

    That’s life

    Life as we know it

We don’t know what’s coming our way

    It’s never easy

Should I leave or should I stay ?

    Nothin’ is easy

    Nothin’ comes free

    It all has a price

    Nothin’ is simple

    Nothin’ is pure

    That’s life

    And I been wondering

    How the sun can shine

When it’s raining all around me

And the poem – it doesn’t rhyme

    Nothin’ is easy

    Nothin’ comes free

    It all has a price

    Nothin’ is simple

    Nothin’ is pure

    That’s life

Now how can I go wrong

    I’m leavin’ town

    I won’t be around

Please don’t beg me to stay

    I’m leavin’ town

    You can’t tie me down

    I’m gonna be on my way  . . .

     I’m leavin’

    Staying afloat on the water

    Staying afloat on the sea

Staying afloat as the world turns

    What will become of me

Staying afloat on the white caps

    Staying afloat through the storm

Staying afloat as the wind blows

    Trying to keep warm

Treading water madly so the fish don’t bite

Swimming with the sharks . . . will we make it through the night

    Staying afloat as a person

Staying afloat is up to you

    Staying afloat as a country

    What will the world do

Staying afloat when your heart is aching

    Staying afloat deep inside

    Staying afloat in shark-filled waters

Do you think you can survive

Treading water madly so the fish don’t bite

Swimming with the sharks . . . will we make it through the night

    Staying afloat when you’re wounded

Staying afloat with a broken wing

We stayed afloat through some hard times

    What will tomorrow bring

    Staying afloat on the water

    Staying afloat on the sea

Staying afloat as the world turns

    What will become of me

    Be Gentle With My Heart

    ©2000  Rebecca Lee

Be gentle with my heart . . . go easy on my soul

    Don’t make me hurt . . . don’t make me cry

Be gentle with my heart . . . go easy on my soul

    Don’t make me run . . . don’t make me hide

Don’t say those things you don’t mean to say

Don’t let words tear my heart or I’ll run far away

We’re on the same side . . .  I know that you know

Let’s be good to each other . . . this isn’t for show

Be gentle with my heart . . . go easy on my soul

    Don’t make me hurt . . . don’t make me cry

Be gentle with my heart . . . go easy on my soul

    Don’t make me run . . . don’t make me hide

I love you so and I know you love me

Put faith in our love . . . let’s be strong like a tree

Let’s talk over differences . . . talk over dreams

Let our love run peaceful like rivers and streams

Be gentle with my heart . . . go easy on my soul

    Don’t make me hurt . . . don’t make me cry

Be gentle with my heart . . . go easy on my soul

    Don’t make me run . . . don’t make me hide

    My love inside me

    Be gentle with my heart

    Where Did You Go

copyright registration: The Leaves Are Falling

    ©1990 Rebecca Lee

    The leaves are falling everywhere

And the cold wind starts to blow

    People are just waiting around

Talking about where they will go

There’s a different cold that’s in the air

The summer warm – it has gone

    Nighttime falls so early now

And the days don’t seem very long

It’s the calm before the storm

It’s the rain before the sun

Oh, darling - Which way should I run

You know that I’ve been missing you

    Ever since you went away

And now I sit and wonder

Where did you go today - Where did you go ?

I try to think that I’m happy

There’s so much in life that’s very fine

But deep down inside my heart

I know I’m telling myself one big line

It’s the calm before the storm

It’s the rain before the sun

    Oh darling,

    Which way should I run

I try not to be so sad

But that’s the way it seems to be

But time will pass and I’ll feel better soon

But I wonder – do you think of me?

    Where did you go?

    I Love You Anyway

    ©1999 Rebecca Lee

I know we are different    . . . you and me

But I love you anyway . . . it’s so plain to see

It’s what makes us . . . who we are

Even though sometimes we see a different star

    II Love you anyway

    Different colors in the world

    Making life a beautiful swirl

The way that you are . . . I know it so well

You’re different from me and it’s easy to tell

But that what I love is the whole picture of you

My eyes are green and your eyes are blue

    I love you anyway

Different eyes look at the sky

    Different colors through each eye

And when we don’t see eye to eye

    Plain eye to eye

I’ll take a deep breath and I’ll try not to cry

It’s not important that we be the same

We’ll work it out . . . our love will remain

    I love you anyway

    North Woods

©1987 rebecca lee, written for my dad after he died in 1987

Looking at the clear blue water

    Looking for the sun

    Wondering about the world

And which way I should run

Oh I’ve been thinking of you now

    Wondering how you are

    Even though you’ve gone away

You know you haven’t gone so far

The memory of your true love

And the treasures that we’ve had

    They’ll always be within me

You’ll always be there mom and dad

And the tall pines of the north woods

I know how you loved them so

You know that I’ve been missing you

And I know you had to go

    Looking at the hazy sky

    Looking for the setting sun

    Still thinking about how you

I guess I’ll take my dog on a run

‘Cause I can’t quit thinking of you

I’m still thinking of you now

Still I wonder how you are

    I guess I’ll make a wish

Next time I see a falling star

And I’ll wish that you are happy

And I’ll wish you peace and sun

But I sort of wish you were here

To come with me and run

Through the tall pines of the north woods

I know how you loved them so

You know that I’ve been missing you

But I know we had to go . . .Our separate ways

    But I know our paths will cross . . . In future days . . .

where the mighty Mississippi River begins its winding way down to the Gulf of Mexico

and the pine trees grow big and tall and dance in the wind . . . Itasca

I love Preacher’s Grove in the sunshine . . . the headwaters in the rain

I love Itasca in the summer . . . there’s no place the same

I can feel the spirit there . . . I hear the wind through the trees

And I feel the golden sun . . . I hear the leaves

And they talk to me . . . they tell me stories

Of the brave men who have passed

They give me hope and inspiration

    And a love to last . . . a lifetime

I love the deer trails running through the woods . . . ladyslippers on the lane

I love Itasca in the winter . . . there’s no place the same

And I feel the spirit there . . . I hear the wind through the trees

And I feel the golden sun . . . I hear the leaves

And they talk to me . . . they tell me stories

Of strong women who have passed

They give me hope and inspiration

    And a love to last . . . a lifetime

I love the wild call of the common loon . . . as it flies so high above

I love Itasca any time at all . . . it’s the forest that I love

And I feel the spirit there . . . when the sun shines down on me

And I feel the earth as one . . . when I sit beside a tree

The forest talks to me . . . it tells me stories

Of men and women who have passed

It gives me hope and inspiration

And a love to last a lifetime

    They Go Their Own Way

    ©2000 rebecca lee

Some people lose their children early

    Some people not at all

Some people lose them later in life

    It’s not their call

    They go their own way

    You can’t hold them back

You can’t live their life for them

You can’t give them what they lack

And it’s hard, oh so hard

But you have to let go

    Some are influenced by others

    Some will listen to you

You have to take it as it comes

You can’t pick what comes to you

And they go their own way

You can’t tell them what to do

You can’t make their choices for them

You can only guide them through

And it’s hard – oh, so hard

But you have to let go

I know you love your kids with all your heart

But let them be who they are

You can’t live your life for them

You just can’t go that far

You have to go your own way

    Let your children go theirs

You have to follow your own dream

    And let them follow theirs

    Stolen Moments

    ©2000 rebecca lee

    Moments,  stolen moments

    Moments … stolen moments

    That’s all I have

Being with you is so much fun

Touching you makes me feel warm like the sun

    I look in your eye

    I see what I love

    But you’re not mine

    Moments,  stolen moments

    Moments … stolen moments

    That’s all I have

We didn’t meet at the right time

You say you’re not free to choose

    Look in my eye

    And tell me your heart

    Why must I lose

    Moments,  stolen moments

    Moments … stolen moments

    That’s all I have

It’s so unfair that you want me to stay

Why didn’t you just keep out of my way

    You have it all

    When you walk away

    Is it fair

    Moments,  stolen moments

    Moments … stolen moments

    That’s all I have

I’ll Be There When The Sun Doesn’t Shine

    ©1982 Rebecca Lee

I’ll be there when the sun doesn’t shine

I’ll be there when the sky isn’t blue

I’ll be there when you need me to be

There ain’t nothing I wouldn’t do for you

I’ll be there when the rain starts to come

I’ll be there when the sky starts to fall

I’ll be there when you need me to be

Just give me a call . . . any time at all

And call me when you need me

And you really feel all alone

Call me when you’re feeling so bad

You know you can always come home

I’ll be there when the heart cannot sing

I’ll be there when the flowers are gone

I’ll be there when you need me to be

I’ll be there to help you be strong

Call me when you need me

And you don’t think there’s anything to share

Call me when you’re feeling so bad

And you’re heart begins to tear

We all need someone to believe in us

We all need someone to care

We all need another hand to hold

You know that I’ll always be there

I’ll be there when the sun doesn’t shine

I’ll be there when the sky isn’t blue

I’ll be there when you need me to be

There ain’t nothing I wouldn’t do for you

    No there ain’t nothing I wouldn’t do

    Song For Mom

    ©1985 Rebecca Lee

When you got no place to go

And you got nothing to show

You can still call your mom

When the blues, they got you down

And the clowns begin to frown

    Mom, oh she’ll be there

Oh, your mom, she loves you so

You’re in her heart you know

You’ll always be there to stay

And she’ll keep on loving you

    Even when she’s gone

Your mom, she’ll always be there

And her spirit will keep you strong

    There’s nothing like a mom

    She’ll hold your hand

    There’s nothing like a mom

    She’ll understand

    There’s nothing like a mom

    Nothing like a mom

    Nothing like a mom

    Rock With Me Baby

    ©1997 Rebecca Lee

Rock with me  . . . Rock with me

    Rock with me, baby

Rock with me . . . Take me in your arms

    Rock with me

    Hold me so closely

    Rock with me

And fill me with your charms

    I’m falling in love

I think that I love you

    I’m taking a chance again

    Will this love be true?

I think that I love you

    It feels so fine

    I’m falling in love again

    Will you be mine?

Rock with me . . . Come on  and Rock with me

    Rock with me, baby

Come on and rock with me . . . Rock with me

    Hold me so closely

    Rock with me and

    Fill me with your charms

You make me feel so special

You make me feel like gold

    Come and play with me

    While we grow old

I know that I love you

    I never felt this way

    You do something to me

You’re in my heart to stay

    See The Sun

See the sun come shining in my window

Hear the rain falling on the ground

And I want you to know you’ll always have a friend in me

And you’re welcome just to come and hang around

With me, anytime, night or day, buddy

I’ll be waiting around just to play

I’ll be waiting by the tree . . . won’t you come and play with me

    Near the water . . . underneath the sky . . . just you and I

Come let’s walk hand in hand as we stroll along the sand

    Thinking about what tomorrow brings

And we won’t worry ‘bout the future

We won’t worry ‘bout the past

‘Cause we got a love that’s really going to last

And I want you to know that wherever you may go

I’ll be missing you . . . . and my thoughts will be there

And you can search the whole world over

And try to find some clover

But you’ll never find a truer friend who’ll care

Like I do, and I do, yes I really care for you

It’s so crazy . . . but it feels so right

When you’re near and I’m sincere that I never felt no better

Than when you are here with me in the night

    My friend

See the sun come shining in my window

Hear the rain falling on the ground

And I want you to know you’ll always have a friend in me

And you’re welcome just to come and hang around

    With me . . .

I Am A Woman  (fka Just A Woman)

    ©1997 Rebecca Lee

    I am a woman

    Feeling what I feel

    Looking for friendship

    Someone who is real

    Some understanding

    Shelter from the storm

    Looking for true love

    Someone to keep me warm

I put up a wall sometimes

    Afraid to let go

    Trying to be safe somehow

    From a lover’s woe

I’ve been hurt, I’ve been so sad

    I’ve trusted and I’ve lost

    Is this a safer lover

And what will this love cost

    It’s hard to find somebody

    Who cares about you too

    Men, they focus on themselves

Often, they don’t think of you

It’s not so much that they don’t care

They just don’t think the same

I have to be my own self

And be proud of my own name

    I am a woman

    Looking for a smile

    Someone to hold me

    And stay with me awhile

     I am a woman

    Trying to do good

    Sharing the love inside

    With someone if I could

    I am a woman

    Feeling what I feel

    Looking for friendship

    Someone who is real

    No tears no sadness

    Harmony and fun

    Laughter and passion

And dancing, dancing in the sun

    I Feel So Empty

    © 1997 Rebecca Lee

I feel so empty when you go

I feel my eyes looking sad

I feel so empty when you go

I want to be with you so bad

You said that I could go on with you

But then you changed your mind

You said you really had to be alone

But you weren’t leaving me behind

I’m not exactly sure what you were thinking

You knew that I’d be all alone

You said that you would try to write me

And of course, you said that you would phone

    Chorus

But I feel so empty now you’re gone

I feel my eyes looking sad

I feel so empty now you’re gone

I want to be with you so bad

Now you’ve been gone it seems it’s been a year

Oh my, where did the time go

I think you only called me once or twice

My heart is broken don’t you know

Maybe you’ll come back when the birds fly

Or when the snow begins to fall

Maybe you won’t – oh, I’m not sure now

If you will ever come at all.

And I feel so empty now you’re gone

I feel my eyes looking sad

I feel so empty – don’t you know

I want to be with you . . . I really want to be with you

I want to be with you so bad

    White Wings

    ©1996 Rebecca Lee

White Wings sailing the sea . . . White Wings sailing so free

White Wings . . . White Wings sailing the sea

Away from all the maddening crowd . . . to the silence of the sea

    Traveling crystal water . . . a quiet melody

Sailing on with nature’s best . . . running with the wind

Smiling at the quiet sound . . . and the moon so dim

White Wings sailing the sea . . . White Wings sailing so free

White Wings . . . White Wings sailing the sea

Keeping track of father time . . . without a watch to say

Gambling with your instinct . . . when nighttime reaches day

The peace you find will be your own . . . enjoy it and sail free

And when you think these quiet thoughts . . . sometimes think of me

Cause I’ll be wondering where you are and I’ll be hoping you are fine

Traveling with the water’s edge and the sea of time

White Wings sailing the sea . . . White Wings sailing so free

White Wings . . . White Wings sailing the sea

Alone at sea but not alone . . . for I’ll be with you there

In spirit and in heart and soul . . . you know I care

And White Wings will carry you . . . sailing you so free

White Wings sailing in the sun . . . bringing peace to thee

White Wings sailing the sea . . . White Wings sailing so free

White Wings . . . White Wings sailing so free

Give me a life in the country Lord, and please just give me a home

    Give me a home

You are a sign of strength for many . . .  You stand tall just like a tree

You deal with pain with rays of sunshine  . . . And you give your strength to me

You give us all someone to lean on   . . . And your strength, it does not cease

We look at how you deal with sorrow  . . . You share with us your hope and trust

You carry on with strength and love inside  . . . And you give your strength to us

I Love You In The Morning

    ©1999 Rebecca Lee

I love you when it’s raining

I love you in the sun

I love you in the morning

And I love you when day is done

    There’s something unexplainable

    About what’s going on

    Butterflies are everywhere

My feet aren’t on the ground

I feel so warm so deep inside

    When you look my way

    There’s something special going on

    In my heart today

I love you when it’s raining

I love you in the sun

I love you in the morning

And I love you when day is done

I’ll take you the way you are

    You don’t have to lie

I’ll be with you when you smile

And with you when you cry

I will hold you in my heart

    I’ll never go away

I’ll be with you when I’m not

I’m in this love to stay

I love you when it’s raining

I love you in the sun

I love you in the morning

And I love you when day is done

    Dance of the Norway Pine

    ©1996 Rebecca Lee

    They’re swaying in the wind . . . . they’re playing with the sky

    They’re dancing in the sun . . .  and they’re flying high

They dance in harmony . . . they sparkle and they shine

They stand so proud and tall . . . the Norway Pine

It’s the dance of the Norway Pine

    So beautiful to see

Oh, they sway in the wind and they dance all around

    Come and dance with me

They sun peeks through the leaves . . . snow sparkles in the air

They’re dancing in the woods . . . me and the birds are there

We sing a song or two . . .  squirrels run from tree to tree

    I’m sitting in the woods . . . and who’s watching me ?

It’s the dance of the Norway Pine

    So beautiful to see

Oh, they sway in the wind and they dance all around

    Come and dance with me

As I’m sitting there . . . watching it go on

I listen to the air . . . trying not to make a sound

The deer walk by the stand . . . where I sit so quietly

I don’t know that they have passed me so silently

It’s the dance of the Norway Pine

    So beautiful to see

Oh, they sway in the wind and they dance all around

    Come and dance with me
